LANSING, Mich. — Sen. John Proos on Thursday reminded Southwest Michigan residents that the deadline to register to vote for the November general election is quickly approaching.

“Our freedom to choose our leaders is part of what makes us the beacon of liberty in the world, yet many of us take it for granted,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “I encourage all citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote, which begins with ensuring you are registered. To vote in the November election, you must be registered one month beforehand. This year, that means you must be registered by Tuesday, October 11.”

If you do not know if you’re registered to vote, visit the Michigan Voter Information Center at The site enables you to check your voter registration status and learn how to register. It also includes links to useful information like how you can vote absentee.
