LANSING — Mark your calendar! Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend provides a great opportunity to relax with family and friends and relish the bounty of Michigan’s waters.
Sen. John Proos is reminding residents that this year’s free fishing weekend is set for June 11-12.
“I encourage southwest Michigan anglers – and those who have never gone fishing – to participate in of one our state’s premier outdoor activities this weekend free of charge,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “This annual event is an excellent time for residents and out-of-state visitors can enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes waters.”
During the weekend, all fishing license fees will be waived, but all fishing regulations still apply.
“This tradition is another way for families to get together and enjoy the state’s numerous natural resources,” Proos said. “It is also a wonderful chance to introduce the joy of fishing to children and have a good time with family and friends in Michigan’s great outdoors.”
Michigan offers some of the finest freshwater fishing in the world, with more than 3,000 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, more than 11,000 inland lakes and 36,350 miles of rivers and streams.
