LANSING—After Gov. Rick Snyder announced on Monday that the financial emergency in Benton Harbor has been resolved and that he is appointing a Receivership Transition Advisory Board to ensure smooth transition and continued financial stability, Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph, issued the following statement:
“This is great news for Benton Harbor, its residents and job providers and the entire Southwest Michigan region.
“State involvement in a city’s affairs must be limited to a financial crisis. Today’s announcement of a resolved financial emergency is an example of the process working to stabilize local finances and help create a stronger community.
“Now it is up to the residents, tax payers and elected officials in Benton Harbor to begin the transition to managing their city – free of financial stress.”
