Proos kicks off March is Reading Month with visits to southwest Michigan schools

State Sen. John Proos kicked off “March is Reading Month” today by visiting Benton Harbor Charter School and Hollywood Elementary School in Stevensville.

“Reading to children at a young age has been shown to generate an interest in learning, a creative spirit and a confidence in academic ability later in life,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph.  “It also provides an opportunity for families to communicate and bond with one another.”

In an effort to promote the importance of reading with children of all ages, Proos will be reading to hundreds of students at local elementary schools throughout Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties during “March is Reading Month.”

Proos encouraged kids to utilize their local libraries and all of the helpful services they can provide and offered special ‘March is Reading Month’ bookmarks to families and teachers who contact his Lansing office toll-free at (866) 305-2121 or by e-mail at senjproos@senate.michigan.gov.
