LANSING—Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph, gave an economic and general legislative update at the Niles-Buchanan Rotary Club meeting on Monday at Katharos Catering in Niles.
“This new business is an example of the positive signs we see throughout Southwest Michigan of our hard work succeeding in revitalizing our state,” Proos said. “Michigan’s projected $970 million surplus illustrates that our economy is growing, creating jobs and expected to continue its recovery next year. I supported real reforms, knowing that the product of a more efficient government and a growing economy would be additional revenues.
“I believe we must remain cautious and responsible with the surplus and use it help fix our roads, teach our kids and protect our communities.”
Proos mentioned several legislative reforms he will be working on in 2014, included expanding career and technical education options, protecting women and children from human trafficking and improving efficiency and transparency in government.
