LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Senate gathered together on the Senate floor after session on Tuesday to celebrate Organ Donor Registry Day in a bipartisan effort to raise awareness about registering to become an organ donor.
Sen. Morris Hood III, D-Detroit, (center right) and Sen. John Proos, R-St. Joseph, (center left) sponsored Senate Resolution 14 to declare Valentine’s Day as Organ Donor Registry Day in the state of Michigan.
According to Donate Life America, more than 120,000 men, women and children nationwide currently need an organ transplant; every 10 minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list; and an average of 21 people die each day waiting for an available organ.
